Term Comment
Title The assigned name that you give to a Release. This can be the name of the lead track but can often be unrelated to any track titles.
Version The variation title of the Release. This normally notes the difference from the original release. This can range from 'Radio Edit' to 'Extended Version' to 'VIP Remix' and much more.
Catalog # A catalog number is the identification number a record label assigns to a Release. It is used for tracking purposes by both the label and the distributor. It is composed of numbers and letters, and sometimes a symbol such as a hyphen. There is no standard length or nomenclature.
Barcode The barcode is the unique 10/11 digit number assigned to a release. This number is used to identify and catalog releases by Distributors and Digital Stores.
Primary Artists The major artist(s) who appear on the Release. When 4 or more Primary artists exist on a Release, we suggest marking the Primary Artist as 'Various Artists'
Featuring Artists The supporting artist(s) who appear on the Release. When 4 or more Featuring artists exist on a Release, we suggest marking the Featuring Artist as 'Various Artists'
Label Name The full name of the release label for the Release. They are responsible for the release of the music and collecting of revenue from the relevant usage.
Primary Genre The key genre of the music contained in the Release. Only one can be entered and must be chosen from the pre-populated list.
Secondary Genre The sub-genre of the music contained in the Release. Multiple minor genres can be entered (although only one is recommended) and any genre can be typed in.
P Line The purpose of a ? notice is to signify that rights exist in a sound recording and to identify the owner of those rights. For instance, ? notices are displayed on all copies of a sound recording – whether physical or digital. In the physical version of a song, the ? notice usually appear on the cover art of the CD, while on digital copies the ? notice will appear in the metadata associated with the file.
C Line The © notice, or copyright, is used to signify copyright in a range of works other than sound recordings. Usually © notices are associated with merchandise, artwork, and other printed material. However, © notices can also be used in relation to the underlying musical composition and lyrics of a song.
Explicit The identifier tag that notes if a Release contains Explicit language or imagery. Mark 'Yes' if contained, 'Clean' if previously present but censored and 'None' if no Explicit content is contained in any form.
Packshot The key artwork file intended for the Release product. Format recommendations as follows: Dimensions 5000 x 5000 pixels. 300 DPI or above in JPEG/PNG format.
Type The indication if the Release is either a physical or a digital product in terms of format.
Format & Pricing This should show if the Release product is a Single, EP or Album. A single should be 1-3 tracks (unless one track is 10min+ - EP), an EP 4-6 tracks and an Album should be 7-8 tracks and above.
Release Date The stated/intended date which the Release is/was expected to go live on digital DSPs/in physical stores.
Preorder Date The intended date which the Release will be available for pre-order on digital DSPs/in physical stores.
Original Release Date The original release date which the Release went live on digital DSPs/in physical stores. Can also be when the Release was originally intended to release.
(+) Add Disc This feature allows for the linking of Assets to a release product. In the case of a multiple volume release, more discs can be added and assigned.
